Dee in Hosanna

Dee is now in her sixth year of serving as a missionary educator in Ethiopia. She worked to set up a kindergarten for 200+ students near Butajira, Ethiopia. When the teachers were competent in managing their own school she went to Hosanna, Ethiopia. Now, her focus is on training teachers to become trainers of other teachers. The lab school is the Kindergarten of the Hosanna Kale Heywet Church. Dee is also working with Hanna's Orphans to set up an orphanage which opened there in July of 2009.

New directions

Psalms 37:5
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.

This is a time that I really need to understand this scripture as it applies to my present situation. Many good things are unfolding as I search how to better serve here in Ethiopia. It is so evident that the college only wanted me there to meet their curriculum requirements. They are barely staying afloat in their college program so of course they are not eager to add kindergarten as another program to be responsible for.

Meanwhile, I am developing partnerships with other organizations where I can train teachers. While praying about this, I was given the idea of going to the Ethiopian communities in the US and seeking out teachers of Early Childhood Education to train to conduct team workshops for Kindergarten teachers here, The Kale Heywet Church has many kindergartens and needs trainers. Christian Children's Foundation has several KGs and also need trainers.

Hope for Children---a children's home for HIV positive children needs trainers and I conducted 2 for them 3 years ago. Hanna's Orphans is the fourth organization that needs trainers and I went with her to the President of the High Court in Hosanna last Friday to get permission to take the children, who are in prison with their moms, out to live in a group home in that community where the mothers will be allowed to visit with them monthly.

I am thinking that four teams of 6 (three Ethiopian and 3 American teachers) to be assigned to visit with each of the above programs annually for a two-week workshop is the plan to follow. It is exciting and I am looking forward to the opportunity to see many more children have a good foundation for the rest of their life as learners.

I also feel led to set up a kindergarten in the village of Hosanna, build my home there, and train teachers to manage it. Then, as I did for Project Mercy I will leave the supervisory position and set up another school to do the same.

Mini-update

Dear Friends and Family,
Since Dec. 20th I have been OOB (as our mission leaders say: Out of Bed). No rest and much travel: There will be an update as soon as I get settled down, again.

Sue Paul and LivI came on Dec. 27th. I had a team meeting in Uganda; Team Leaders returned to Ethiopia with me; then a large team from CBF arrived a couple of days after team leaders left and we traveled to all of the sites where CBF missionaries are doing work in Ethiopia---that was a 6 day trip.

I took Emebet home from the hospital on my way back to Hosanna. I also brought a remarkable lady named Hanna to Hosanna with me for the next morning's trip through the justice system here to have children in the prison (with moms) released. She had secured a commitment from renters of good housing for the children before she left Hosanna. I am taking Ato Mulu and Bizunesh to Addis tomorrow. Merrie Harding, a PT went with me, when the CBF team was here, to fit his wheelchair and determined that he needed a bicycle chair, instead. Hopefully, we can pick it up and be back to Hosanna in 2 days. Bizunesh is going to register for more seminary classes. The college has yet to find teachers for me to train but I am staying very busy as I walk with Him. Each day brings new opportunities. We had a house full of women for Bible Study today.

I am humbled to be in His service here in Ethiopia,
Dee
